Post subject:  Power Supply Failure?

I'm new to G- Scale Model Trains and I was looking for some advice. I was looking for a good power source for GScale Trains. I have an older train with some used tracks. I had a power source that was compatible, but died after using the train for most of one day. If you could point me in the right direction. I would greatly appreciate it.
Most of the train shops say it might be the train itself and not the power source.

Does the power supply hum when it's plugged in? You might have to put your ear against it to hear.

If it hums, here's a trick I don't usually recommend. Turn the knob up halfway and VERY briefly brush the wires that go to the track against each other. Just a very quick brush. If they spark, your power supply is probably fine. If you do it for more than a quick brush, you run the risk of damaging it.
