Post subject:  Smoke Fluid vs Lamp Oil

I have a Bachmann Big Hauler 4-6-0 loco which I understand does not have the best smoke generator. I am using LGB cleaning/smoke fluid but getting only minimal results. Some model railroad forums have indicated that using lamp oil (paraffin or mineral oil based) may yield better results.

What are the pros and cons to this?

McCapp, I have used both store-bought "smoke fluid" and regular lamp oil, and some work better in some engines than others, even in the same brand. I think the temperature of the heating coil is to blame, and is not very standard. Sorry, not much help. Anyone else?

Thanks for the input. One engine looks like its on fire when I turn on the smoke unit, another barely makes a puff. I'll try different fluids and oils to see if I can find the best and I'll post any interesting findings.
