A friend writes:
Our postman just delivered a cute little switcher I got on eBay. It looks like the motor block is their standard brick from Bachmann's United Traction style trolleys w/3.5" wheel base, but nothing else fits the Bachmann scheme. It apparently isn't that old as the motor block has skates.

This is a small Plymouth style switcher with open cab. The metal body (non-magnetic) is painted orange and came with a standing engineer, a water can, fire extinguisher and tool box in the cab area and a hanging type lantern on the front. A second fire extinguisher sits on the floor just in front of the cab on the fireman side. This engine came with link and pin couplers. I've not seen anything like this before. It runs like a champ forward but I've not yet gotten to the bottom of its reluctance to move in reverse.

I tried a Google search but found no results for this G scale critter. The body castings tell me this isn't a one-off homemade engine as louvers, radiator detail and pilots on both ends look like this is more than put together from someone's junk box.

So the question is if you can enlighten me on what I've got here?

Modified MDC "L'il Hustler" would be my take.

I agree. I've got two of them. The cab has been removed and details added. Very nice job.
