At a thrift shop the other day, I found most of a Fisher Price Bright lights Big City set (for $2). We bought it for the kids at the preschool where Shelia works. But I DID evaluate it as a potential trashbash project.

It's missing the crane and cars and a few other accessories. But it has some clever bits, including a news stand with little magazine cover stickers, and some nice moldings on the windows of the second building. If you hit the button, you get street noise and distant sirens, the arrow light flashes, and another set of lights does a little light show on the little "skyscraper." If you hit the button three times, you hear a saxophone playing a few jazz notes.
At any rate, I thought about the possibilities of trashbashing this thing for a few moments. The Skyscraper's windows are just stickers, so it would have to be masked off. The truth is, it wouldn't be that effective, even painted diligently, but it could stand in as the backdrop for a city scene I suppose.
At another thrift shop I saw most of the clock tower that's part of the same series in a bag with a bunch of unrelated stuff for $8. I didn't really need the clock tower, it would take a lot of work to turn into anything useful, and I thought $8 was to much to spend. Then I looked it up on the internet. The clock tower by itself is $80 plus. So I looked this thing up. $100+ for the set new.
No, I can't resell this one for "real money," with the crane and other accessories missing. But it does rule out recommending this set, or anything from this set as a trashbashing project unless you can get them REAL CHEAP.
Still, I thought it was worth posting about, in case any of you come across a discarded unit and wonder what it is. Here's the link to the Amazon page that lists it.
