I have a train set similar to yours. I received it in the early 1990's.
My question is how to the trains go around the track. I can't find where the batteries go in the first train. Or is there something that connects to the box which has a plug. Please help me figure out for my grandson who loves train sets.
Thank you.

Thanks for getting in touch.
If it's a Bachmann train, the batteries go in the engine. there is a door in the cab that you pull upwards. i don't remember if there's a latch of any kind.
Most of the other brands keep the batteries in the tender (coal car). Generally there is a tab on the back of it somewhere (the end with the ladder) that you push in. Then when you pull up on it, it gives you access to the battery compartment.
If this doesn't give you enough information, please send me a photo of your train. Just reply to this message and "attach" it. That way I'll hopefully be able to identify it, and if I'm not familiar with that particular locomotive, I can probably find someone who is.
