Post subject:  Wheel Cleaning

We are starting to get more train running time on our new garden railroad and the question of cleaning the gunk off the wheels of our track-powered locomotives has now come up. We are already using metal wheels on all our rolling stock. So I am curious as to how others deal with this issue. What type of cleaners or special tools do you use? Do you have any "tricks of the trade" or top secret procedures that will help?

PerryO,

This article has a few tips, although there are about as many ways to clean wheels as there are model railroaders.

Best of luck,

Thanks Paul for pointing me to the wheel cleaning article. I need to remember that there are many such gems of information on the Family Garden Trains site. ;)
I have decided to build a "wheel cleaning station" for our locos using small brass brushes. Unfortunately the link to Ron Wenger's article no longer works, but the info provided in the FGT primer article should be sufficient. I'll post a photo of my attempt when its done.
