Just getting into lgb trains and g scale. Buying my first lgb train and tracks. Been resding your site for good info but still real new and there is slot to figure out.
question: I did have one question. Im am buying lionel battery powered reasy to run models. I Want hogwarts but 200 dollars jeez. Is it worth just modifying ready to play and save money. Really want old version but over 100 seems like a rip off.

You're right, $100-200 for a plastic toy is a ripoff. Lionel only made a few and they sold out quickly, since they vastly underestimated the demand. I paid over $100 for a used set one year, and I've found odds and ends since so I have extra coaches and a backup engine.

One source is shopgoodwill.com. Search for "Hogwarts" and also for "Lionel trains." Maybe also "harry potter train."

Right now they have nothing listed but the HO set, and the G gauge sets only show up rarely, but I've picked up some pieces there. Like anything you're trying to buy used, patience helps.

Thank you for prompt reply. Appreciate the goodwill tip I will keep looking there for sure. Patience is key for sure. Got lucky yesterday and found crayola, pen flyer, Santa fe, james the red train electric g scale and Christmas train(lionel lines) all for around 40 each so think im a liitle spoiled on a good day find. Want polar express which i know i can find but now hogwarts will be my obsession I know it and will indeed take patience if i dont want to pay ebay prices.

Appreciate the site , just scratching the surface by really invaluable to someone like me starting out.
