I am in the process of building a number of structures for my new garden railway. Many of my buildings will be made mostly from wood (based on another of my hobbies) but that still leaves lots of doors and windows for me to buy or make. There are some very nice pre-made doors and windows available, however a look at their prices left me considering other alternatives. This led me to Colorado Model Structures (CMS). In addition to complete plastic building kits, CMS has various building components available for the scratch builder. Their CMS 31011 Window and Door Set comes with 2 doors and 9 windows (in four different sizes) at a reasonable price. I have found that with a bit of cutting with a hobby knife and snap saw, and/or the addition of some styrene strips, I can take the basic doors and windows provided in the CMS set and achieve different looks to add variety to my homemade structures. Here is what I have done so far with the basic door and windows from the CMS 31011 set:
