New Boston and Donnels Creek, Eastern Edge, April, 1999[Note from 2006: This shows my pond and the eastern "front" edge of the rock garden a few months after the winter pictures were taken. I subsequently acquired a couple more Atlantics, but discovered that for just running around the track when company was over, the smaller engines did a better job, since the Atlantics have a self-exploding valve gear problem that doesn't handle rough trackage all that well. That's why little engines are featured so much in later photos. Thyme and sedums have filled in much of the "blank" areas by now.] This is a picture of the Eastern edge of the loop, showing the rock wall and the pond, taken in April, 1999, the first spring after this loop (the first loop) was built. Click on the picture to see a slightly larger version. Since this picture was taken, I have moved the stubby fingers sedum (bright green, center) over to the southern rock wall, and transplanted more of the blueish stonecrop sedum in its place and into the cracks beween the stones in the lower course. My wife seemed to think that the stonecrop and woolly thyme (right edge next to track) supplemented each other so nicely in color it was a shame not to spread it out a little. The Atlantic in the picture now has gear. It's described in the Motive Power page.
